Eagles get into the spirit of giving
The Eagles are in the holiday spirit, as many student groups have organized charity drives to help area families in need.
A "Giving Tree" stands in the main office, decorated with ornaments that list an item on someone's wish list this Christmas. Members of the Lakes community, including student organizations, can take an ornament and buy the specified gift, wrap and tag it, and return it to the main office before Friday, Dec. 7. A few ornaments still remain. More than 300 local families approached the Open Arms Mission for help this season asking for warm blankets, shoes, boots and sweaters; the "Giving Tree" is one way LCHS is contributing.
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes and other school groups also have adopted more than 10 families through the Open Arms Mission and are providing them with gifts.
The National Honors Society is sponsoring a hat and mitten drive until Dec. 7; all contributions should be dropped off in the main office or the cafeteria during lunch hours. Also in the main office is a box for the Toys for Tots, which provides children in need with toy gifts to open over the holidays. Toys for Tots is sponsored by Key Club.
